Renting a car with no credit card is fully possible in North Cyprus —
at Kipra it is the standard process, not an exception: as of 2026
there is **no credit-card requirement at any step**. Booking asks for
no card details, handover involves no hold, and you pay by **cash,
debit card, credit card or bank transfer** — whichever you prefer.

## What "no credit card" means elsewhere vs here

At most rental counters, "you don't need a credit card" hides a second
sentence: *a debit card is accepted, but we'll block a large amount on
it*, or *the cardless package costs extra per day*. Here there is no
second sentence, because there is
[no deposit and no hold at all](/en/guide/no-deposit-car-rental/) —
the card question simply becomes "how would you like to pay".

Why holds hurt, in practice: the blocked amount sits on your limit for
the whole trip, the release can take days after you fly home, and the
exchange rate may shift between block and release. None of those three
problems can occur in a system that never blocks anything.

## Why do most rental companies insist on a credit card?

Because elsewhere the credit card is not a payment method — it is
the deposit instrument. A pre-authorisation hold is how a chain
secures damage excess and late-return risk against your credit
limit, which is why "credit card in the main driver's name" is a
hard rule at most counters: debit cards and cash cannot carry a hold
the same way. Remove the deposit from the model — as the previous
section describes — and the credit-card requirement loses its only
job. What remains is the document check that actually matters: a
physical licence card and a passport or ID.

## Accepted payment methods

| Method | How it works |
| --- | --- |
| Cash | EUR, GBP, TRY or USD — pay at handover |
| Debit / credit card | Via POS, no hold, no pre-authorisation |
| Bank transfer | Details arrive by email after booking; pay before or at handover |
| Something else | Ask when booking — arrangements are possible |

## Four currencies, no markup

Every price on the site is displayed in **EUR, GBP, TRY and USD
simultaneously, with no conversion markup** — your currency choice
follows you across the site and into the booking app. The practical
effect: a visitor from London pays in pounds, a visitor from Ankara
pays in lira, and both pay the same value. There is no "which currency
is cheaper" puzzle, because the conversion cost is not hidden in the
price.

For orientation when you compare: the KKTC Central Bank's published
reference on 12 June 2026 was roughly **53.2 TL per euro** and
**61.7 TL per pound** — the four displayed prices follow real rates
like these, not a padded in-house conversion. How money behaves in
the rest of North Cyprus — which currency shops and museums prefer,
where to exchange, which card habits to keep — is covered in the
[North Cyprus money, cards and cash guide](/en/guide/currency-cash-cards-north-cyprus/).

## Booking without a card, step by step

1. Choose dates at kiprarent.com and see live availability with
   prices in all four currencies.
2. Leave a phone number and email, upload a photo of your licence.
3. Done — **no payment, no card details**. Confirmation arrives by
email; an optional advance payment locks the booking if you want
it locked, and an optional account lets you manage the booking
   online.

Prefer bank transfer? The account details are in your confirmation
email — send the transfer, forward the receipt on WhatsApp, and the
only thing left for handover day is the document check.

## At handover

The car comes to your meeting point — the office,
[your hotel in Famagusta or Long Beach](/en/guide/hotel-car-delivery/),
or the [Ercan Airport car-rental handover](/en/ercan-airport-car-rental/). A short
walk-around together, a check of your **physical licence card (held
at least 1 year) and passport or ID**, a signature, and the keys are
yours. Nobody reaches for the card machine to "just block a small
amount". Minimum driver age is **21**; ages 21–24 pay a young-driver
fee, shown on the booking screen.

## Who this helps most

Cash-and-debit travellers are the mainstream of this market, not an
edge case: according to the TRNC Tourism Planning Department, North
Cyprus received **2,589,729 visitors in 2025** (up 17.2%), with
Türkiye supplying roughly **70%** of arrivals — a travel population
in which the credit card is far from the default wallet. The groups
who feel the difference most:

- **Travellers without a credit card** — debit or cash covers the
  entire process, with zero workarounds.
- **Students** — Famagusta has a large student population around EMU,
much of it card-less; from age 21 the process is identical, no
  guarantor, no extra paperwork.
- **Privacy-minded visitors** — your card details are never a
required field, from booking to return.
- **Long-stayers** — the rule holds for monthly rentals too; the
30+ day tier is meaningfully cheaper per day, covered on the
[long-term rental page](/en/long-term-car-rental/) and compared in
  our [long-vs-short-term article](/en/blog/long-term-vs-short-term-car-rental-north-cyprus/).

## What still applies

No card requirement does not loosen the rest: you still need the
**physical licence card** (the licence embedded in the Turkish chip ID
is not accepted alone — details in the
[licence requirements guide](/en/guide/driving-licence-requirements/)),
fuel returns at the level you received it, and late returns follow the
published rule (first hour free, hourly pro-rata after, 4+ hours = a
full day). One TRNC quirk worth knowing: **traffic fines are payable
by card only** at police stations — a reason to carry at least one
bank card even if you pay the rental in cash. And wherever you do
use a card on the island, if a terminal offers to charge your home
currency instead of TRY, decline and pay in TRY — dynamic currency
conversion is the one hidden markup this page cannot remove for you.

If this is your first trip, payments are only one strand of the
preparation — entry paperwork, the left-side driving switch and
arrival logistics are gathered in the
[guide to your first trip to North Cyprus](/en/guide/first-time-visitors-north-cyprus/).

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Can I rent with a debit card?**

Yes — and without the catch. Elsewhere 'debit accepted' usually comes with a large hold; here the card is only a payment instrument. Pay by debit, credit, cash or bank transfer; nothing is blocked.

**Can I pay entirely in cash?**

Yes. EUR, GBP, TRY and USD cash are all accepted, and prices are displayed in all four currencies with no conversion markup — you pay the same value whichever you choose.

**How do I book without entering card details?**

Pick dates at kiprarent.com, leave a phone number and email, upload a licence photo. No payment and no card details are required to reserve.

**Can I pay by bank transfer from abroad?**

Yes. After booking you receive the account details by email; settle before arrival or at handover, whichever suits you.
