Public transport in North Cyprus exists, but it is a set of separate private bus and van companies, not a network: there is no rail, no single authority and no Uber or Bolt. Most routes finish by 18:00-19:00, and some have no Sunday service. It works for a daytime run between towns. This page gives the routes and fares as of September 2026, how to pay, and where a taxi takes over.

What public transport is there in North Cyprus?

North Cyprus public transport means buses and shared vans run by separate private companies, with no rail and no single authority, according to Pazar Kıbrıs (updated September 2026). The operators include VirgoBus, İtimat, Gece Otobüsleri, Akva Bus, Çimen and Kombos, with KIBHAS on the airport runs. Fares run roughly 75-550 TL and are revised often, so treat every figure below as dated. With no single authority, check the operator’s own channel before you travel.

North Cyprus received 2,589,729 visitors in 2025, according to the TRNC Tourism Planning Department, and no ride-hailing app serves them. Read the things that surprise first-time visitors to North Cyprus alongside it.

What is the North Cyprus bus timetable on the main routes?

The main North Cyprus routes run daytime service between the towns, and only Kyrenia to Nicosia runs late into the evening. These are the published figures, from Pazar Kıbrıs, with the month each fare was reported:

Route Type Service Time Fare

Kyrenia-Alsancak-Lapta Route minibus All day, no timetable, flag down Varies 80-140 TL (from 15 Jan 2026)

The İskele city bus is the local exception: Monday to Saturday, eight departures from Caesar Resort B Gate between 09:00 and 18:00, a loop of about 45 minutes with 24 stops, 75 TL, AdaKart only (September 2026).

Is there a bus from Famagusta to Kyrenia?

Yes, the Famagusta to Kyrenia link is a dolmuş, a shared van that runs 09:00-18:00, every 1-1.5 hours, takes about 1 h 15 and cost 350 TL as of January 2026. Reserve by phone, because it has about 8 seats. The other way is to change in Nicosia: Famagusta to Nicosia (about 1.5 h) plus Nicosia to Kyrenia (45-55 min) comes to about 412 TL at the September 2026 AdaKart and online fares, and about 2 h 15 to 2 h 25 plus the wait (our arithmetic). The drive itself is 80.6 km, 75-90 minutes, so the dolmuş is close to car speed if you can fit its hours.

What is the difference between a bus, a dolmuş and a route minibus?

The difference between North Cyprus bus, dolmuş and route minibus services is how fixed they are, and that decides whether you can simply turn up:

Type How it works What it means for you
Bus Fixed timetable from set stops Check the departure and go to the stop
Dolmuş Shared van of about 8 seats from a set point You may need to phone ahead
Route minibus No timetable Stand on the route and flag it down

How do you pay on North Cyprus buses?

Payment on North Cyprus buses varies by route: cash lira, AdaKart, a contactless card or an online ticket. The route table shows how much this can matter. İskele to Famagusta was quoted in cash, the İskele city bus takes AdaKart only and no cash, Famagusta to Nicosia is cheaper on AdaKart than on a card, and Kyrenia to Nicosia is cheaper online than on board. Carry lira and a card, and ask the operator before you rely on one. We have no verified list of AdaKart sales points, so ask the operator about that too. The wider cash question is in currency, cash and cards in North Cyprus.

Is there Uber or Bolt in North Cyprus?

No, neither Uber nor Bolt works in North Cyprus as of 2026. The catch is Bolt’s Cyprus list, which names Ayia Napa, “Famagusta”, Larnaca, Limassol, Nicosia and Paphos. All of those serve the south, and its “Famagusta” means the Paralimni and Ayia Napa area, not the city in the north. Taxis are called by phone or WhatsApp, or taken from a rank.

When do you need a taxi in North Cyprus?

You need a taxi in North Cyprus after about 18:00-19:00, on routes with no Sunday service, and anywhere a bus does not go. The published day meter is 112.81 TL opening plus 43.16 TL/km, which calculates to about 330 TL for a 5 km town hop and about 1,105 TL from Famagusta to Long Beach. Longer runs are usually sold at a fixed quote, so agree the total before you get in. The tables are in the North Cyprus taxi fares and airport prices page.

How do you get from Ercan Airport without a car?

From Ercan Airport without a car, you take either the KIBHAS shuttle or a taxi. KIBHAS is the airport shuttle to Nicosia, Kyrenia and Famagusta, and runs through the night according to the Pazar Kıbrıs overview. A 2026 table shows 400 TL for Ercan to Kyrenia. We could not confirm the fare for other towns, so ask the operator. Because town buses mostly stop around 18:00-19:00, a late arrival means the shuttle or a taxi for the first leg.

Ercan Airport to Famagusta Cost, as of November 2026
KIBHAS shuttle Unconfirmed, ask the operator
Taxi 3,000 to about 4,620 TL, no official tariff
Rental car handed over at the terminal €56/way transfer fee, plus the rental

The drive and its options are set out in the Ercan Airport to Famagusta route page, and the Ercan Airport car rental service has the handover. For a landing late at night, the Kipra team arranges the handover with you over WhatsApp. Larnaca arrivals have a different route again, on foot across the line, covered in Larnaca Airport to Famagusta via Deryneia.

Can you holiday in North Cyprus without a car?

You can holiday in North Cyprus without a car if you stay in one town and accept daytime intercity trips, but most of the sights sit beyond the route table. The Karpaz peninsula route is car only, and Salamis, St Barnabas and the beaches outside town take a taxi or a car. A walkable base and a few taxi rides can be the cheaper answer for a short stay: the rental car versus taxi calculation runs those scenarios in lira.

Kipra Rent A Car is a Famagusta-based local rental company with VAT and third-party insurance included in every displayed price, and with no mileage limit. If the sums tip towards a car, the driving side is covered in the North Cyprus driving rules.
